UN suspends food program in Cambodia Khmer
The United Nations World Food Programme says it has suspended free breakfast to 450,000 poor Cambodian children.
Thomas Keusters, WFP country director in Cambodia, said the rising cost of rice is the main reason for the move.
He said the popular program was suspended last week, and will remain so until mid-July when the students go on vacation.
movement affects 450,000 children in 1,343 schools nationwide.
Better quality rice now sells for more of $ US700 per tonne in Cambodia, $ 400 against 300 last year.
